Preprofessional Programs

The University of Indianapolis prepares students for a number of professional and graduate programs and provides guidance in the selection of those courses recommended or required for admission to most of these programs. A student interested in seeking admission to a professional or graduate program is assigned a faculty advisor who counsels the student about an appropriate undergraduate major as well as the steps to be taken toward fulfilling the ultimate goal of admission to a professional or graduate program. This procedure allows the student to complete an undergraduate major while fulfilling prerequisites for future professional or graduate study. It also provides the student the flexibility of a wide range of options upon graduation from the University.

The pre-physical therapy and pre-occupational therapy programs are four-year baccalaureate programs designed to prepare you for graduate work in these fields. Well-qualified students enrolled in these concentrations have the option of applying during the junior year for admission to the University's graduate programs in physical and occupational therapy. If admitted, you could receive your bachelor of science degree following completion of the first year of your graduate work. Acceptance into the University's physical and occupational therapy graduate programs is competitive, and acceptance requires excellence in completing these programs in the Biology Department.

Students may earn a degree in Respiratory Therapy by combining two years of coursework in the department with two years in clinical institutions.

The department's programs also support preparation for graduate studies in medicine, dentistry, optometry, veterinary medicine, and other clinical fields.
